I bumped into Nick at this years Pots & Food Festival at Wardlow Mires in Derbyshire and treated myself to one of his mugs for home. As I was choosing he was keen to point out that the rim on his mugs are nicely delicate and add to the pleasure of using them. He’s right of course! and its these details and his attention to them that sets his pottery apart. I asked too if he’d be up for stocking another shop and am thrilled he’s joined us and filled the gap we had for good, honest, beautifully crafted, handmade tableware.

He’s been making useable stoneware pottery for over 25 years , but in 2019 set about fulfilling an ambition and changed his way of working and built a large, wood fired kiln at his pottery in Llandeilo, Wales. It the beginning of an exciting new chapter and marks a different approach to his process as the variations and characteristics that wood firing brings to his work makes for each piece to be considered as an individual a true one off and unique. It is Nick’s intention to make well crafted, quietly beautiful and understated pots that are a joy to hold and use. His pots are to be lingered over and enjoyed and we love our Nick Membury mug at home which is now part of a daily ritual of the first good coffee of the day.

We have a selection of Nicks mugs and eating bowls,  all one offs with variegated and beautiful colour ash glazes but selected into tonal groups and colours so that an individual mug and bowl can perhaps pair very nicely together.
