Description

A smallish square cushion made with beautiful pieces of old Chinese indigo-dyed hand loomed batik cloth. The lovely old cloth would originally have been the bottom pleated section of a traditional migration skirt. The finely drawn batik pattern is beautiful and intricate.

These cushions have been made out of a single piece of this special fabric and we’ve left the selvedge exposed when sewing together to show its making story and provenance. The indigo colour has naturally faded , like a good pair of jeans which only adds to them I think. There’s a bit of discolouration on the lighter band.

‘*A selvedge  is a “self-finished” edge of a piece of fabric which keeps it from unravelling and fraying. The term “self-finished” means that the edge does not require additional finishing work, such as a hem or bias tape, to prevent fraying.’

One side seam has been handstitched closed so there is no plastic zip.

We have used British sheep wool for the filler. Wool is eco-friendly and sustainable, durable and long lasting, is anti allergenic and offers a soft, stable feel, allowing air flow and circulation. As a natural material, it is also compliant with fire safety regulations.

Cushions are a great way to update your space and this little treasure can be placed amongst your other cushions to add interest, colour and texture.

Quite a nice decorative cushion for a bed.

Dimensions: 30cm x 30cm.
