Kim Ford is a potter living in rural Warwickshire, producing stoneware pottery with exciting surfaces and textures created using homemade slips and ash glazes.

The materials used for the glazes, slips and firing are all sourced locally and his wood fire kiln is fired up four times a year. Everything is in small batches and each piece is totally unique. We feel extremely lucky to have a small collection of his plates available at Homeward at the moment.

We were immediately attracted by the interesting mark marking in the slips and glazes that he applies and then partially removes, using rubber kidneys or coarse homemade natural fibre brushes.  These plates are made from slabs of stoneware clay formed over plaster moulds of differing sizes and have a lovely shallow curve to them making them lovely to hold and use.

Each plate is unique with different mark making and slight variation in size but the colours are predominately a natural whitish grey putty colour.
